Livestock consume 8x food, 10x water, 10x land, 50x waste, 10x emissions than plant-based food. The United Nations mentions moving to plant-based burgers will reduce land usage by 80% and emissions by 90%.
Studies including from the World Health Organization have labeled red meat and processed meat as carcinogenic, along with asbestos, alcohol and arsenic. Animal protein has a 75% increased risk of premature death from all causes and 4 to 5 times increased risk from most cancer related deaths including prostate, breast, colon, type-2 diabetes. Study by Oxford showed even small quantities of meat can raise cancer risk by 20%.
Large parts of the population are not very well versed in how to implement plant-based lifestyle, and this gap can be mitigated by educating the students population on the importance and how-to of plant based dietary changes.
