Unsustainable land use: Livestock farming
- Habitat Destruction
- 3/4th of all agricultural land used for livestock production threatens population of species as horses, wolves, coyotes, and reduces biodiversity
- 83% of world’s farmland used for livestock grain, dairy, fisheries yet they provide only (unhealthy) 18% of calories and 37% of protein
- Animals consume 6x amounts of food than its weight
- Leading cause of species toward destructions as their land taken
- NASA study shows global warming may decrease food production significantly
- 1/3rd (much) of world like a desert, and lot of it from livestock grazing
- 77% of world’s arable land used for livestock, can be converted back into forests
- Animal based protein takes 15x more land than plant based protein
- Plant based can feed 350 million people more per year, more than the losses in animal diet supply chain
Deforestation impact of livestock farming
- Forests are carbon sinks storing 100 years worth of carbon, when removed release this Co2 and heat atmosphere
- 6 million hectares of land worldwide converted for livestock farming
- Deforestation causing climate change, food crisis
- Brazil’s crops scorched, frozen and then dried out by the worst drought in a century!
“It’s a vicious cycle. There is no rain because there is no humidity, and there is no humidity because there is no rain. Deforestation of the Amazon, which ranchers clear cut to raise cattle and plant crops, is playing a big role.. Brazil hasn’t had a normal rainy season since 2010. It’s been a very peculiar year. Floods in Germany and China, and there’s a very serious drought problem in Brazil.”
